Monero is the lastest crypto-currency seeing a huge surge in popularity. Two of the biggest dark markets AlphaBay and Oasis have begun accepting the privacy focused digital currency which has sent the price sky high over the past few weeks. Have any gambling site followed their lead and added Monero for sports betting, poker or casino gaming?
The only major casino and poker room that support Monero (that I am aware of) is Fortune Jack Fortune Jack Casino not only support Monero, but you can also gamble with Litecoin, Dash, Dogecoin, Peercoin, Namecoin, Clam and other crypto-currencies. In addition to casino games they also offer a fully functional poker room, compete with cash games, freerool tournaments, MTT's and Sit & Go's.
I'm not aware of any major btc sportsbook accepting Monero but Fortune Jack bitcoin poker room and casino does http://www.bitcoingambling.io/fortune-jack.html
I considered buying some Monero until I realized that they don't even have a proper wallet yet. I can barely manage to keep my bitcoin safe with an easy to use Trezor.
If you want to use Monero for gambling then the best thing to do is buy and hold. I think there is a good chance that the price will moon over the next couple of years.
besides bitcoin, I think monero is the only other crypto-currency that is used for purposes other than speculation. something like 5% of alphabay purchases are now done using monero, which is a pretty big deal.
The FBI are worried about how hard it is to track Monero, which is a pretty great advertisement for the currency.
I think site like FortuneJack don't accept Monero directly. They merely use a ShapeShift plugin that converts the Monero to BTC when you deposit.
I would use Monero if there was some proper wallet. I would even keep some as an investment if my Trezor or Ledger Wallet supported it.
I agree. I can't see gambling sites adopting it until major wallets like Coinbase, Trezor, Ledger and Mycelium start to accept it. Right now it's too hard to hold Monero.
I don't see the point in using Monero for online gambling. If the bitcoin network is congested then use litecoin. Litecoin is easy to buy at exchanges, there are a number of quality wallets and the litecoin network is super cheap and fast. The only reason I see buy Monero now is either as an investment or to use to buy narcotics.
I read recently that Ledger Wallet will be supporting Monero in the near future so I think that will attract a lot of people to add Monero to their crypto currency portfolio.
the price of a single monero has skyrocketed to over $400 in the past month so it's almost too valuable to spend now like bitcoin is. i could easily see the price of a xmr going over $1,000 in 2018.
Monero fans should check out our Monero Gambling Guide (XMR) for a list of the best Monero gambling sites.
Coinbase recently added Zcash, which is another privacy coin, but they failed to add Monero, which is disappointing. If people could easily buy XMR on Coinbase then more people would probably use it.
Yes, Coinbase added Zcash because it is possible to turn off the privacy when you make a transaction. Coinbase will not accept Zcash deposits if privacy is turned on. Monero has always on privacy, which is probably why Coinbase won't touch it.
i've occasionally used monero to buy weed from a darnet market but i've never even considered it for placing sports bets. most wallets don't support it so it's just too much hassle to use unless you REALLY need to hide your identity. just stick to bitcoin and use a non custodial wallet in between your exchange and the gambling site.
