While there may have been some small scale bitcoin poker tourneys hosted in the past, we are pretty sure that the Blockchain World Conference in Atlantic City hosted the first major poker tournament to only accept crypto currencies from the participants. The event, which took place in Harrah’s Casino this month, attracted almost 5,000 participants so it was the perfect opportunity to make history with a crypto-exclusive poker tournament. The $250 buy-in had to be paid using a popular cryptocurrency, Ethereum, Dash, Monero, Zcash, Litecoin and Bitcoin were all accepted. The tournament was limited to just $100 and the winner walked away with $10,000 prize package. Poker players have been early adopters of bitcoin because it allowed them to circumvent banking regulations that were designed to prevent them from playing online poker. Thanks to bitcoin, real money poker players in countries like Australia and the United States were able to easily deposit and withdraw from cryptocurrency friendly poker sites like BetOnline, Bovada and Nitrogen Sports.
