Many of you may not know who Calvin Ayre is but he has had a huge impact on the online gambling world. He set-up Bodog, one of the world's first online sportsbooks, way back in 1992. From the earliest days of Bodog he has been a pioneer who has played a huge part in shaping the world of online gambling that we know today. To mark the 100th edition of Gaming Business Magazine, 100 of the most influential thinkers in the sector were invited to give their opinions on the most positive developments in the sector. Given how Bodog has embraced bitcoin, it should come as little surprise that he credited BTC as being the single biggest positive development in bitcoin in the last 10 years.

According to Ayre, gambling is the killer app that is driving the adoption of bitcoin in the same way that porn drove the adoption of VHS back in the 80's. He believes that the link between gambling and bitcoin will only grown stronger as the major online sportsbooks, casinos and poker rooms start to add bitcoin as a payment option at their sites.

Ayre cannot be accused of being a johnny come lately. As far back as 2011, when bitcoin had only been in existence for a couple of years, Ayre was championing the crypto-currency and predicting its success. It also appear that Ayre is a bitcoin maxamilist who believes that bitcoin is the only serious crypto and it will ultimately prevail over all the alt-coin contenders.

It's a pretty major statement to say bitcoin is the biggest positive development in online gambling in 10 years when you consider that online gambling apps only started to appear about 8 or 9 years ago. So according to Ayre, bitcoin will have a bigger impact than Android and iPhone.

You have to remember that Ayre made his money with Bodog serving the underserved = gamblers in the United States. For online sports bettors or poker players in countries were gambling is illegal, bitcoin probably will have a bigger impact that apps have had.
