Even though Australians are known for their love of sports betting and casino gaming, gambling restrictions in Australia are very tight. For instance, the Australian government recently forced major bookmakers like William Hill and Ladbrokes to remove in-play sports betting from their websites and apps. None of the major Australian bookmakers like SportsBet offer poker or casino games to their customers like is the norm in the UK and Ireland. As a result, many sports bettors in Australia are frustrated and looking for an alternative.

The good news is anyone can now buy bitcoin over the counter at over 1,300 newsagents in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and throughout Australia to use at any of these bitcoin sports betting sites, casinos and poker rooms. Right now there is a 4% fee and the minimum amount you can buy is $50. The bitcoin can be purchased from Blueshyft iPad terminals that are commonplace at the checkouts of newsstands and other retailers all over Australia.

No. Maybe someone from Australia can give us a definitive answer but my understanding is that it is an iPad that is mounted at the checkout of these stores. I guess it's a similar process to buying phone credit.

I doubt they're going to install 1,300 iPads just so Aussies can buy bitcoin. Bitcoin isn't that popular yet in Australia.

The infrastructure already existed. These terminals have a wide range of apps that allow you to do lots of things like pay bills and add money to your Ladbrokes account. Buying bitcoin is just another function they added so that overhead costs were tiny.

Does anyone know if this was a success? Are the citizens of Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin fueling the current bull market.

I know the DarkNet markets are quiet popular in Australia because the country is so cut off from the rest of the world.

They are now also selling bitcoin in 1,800 post offices in Austria.

  13. Now that the Australian government has banned online poker, I wonder if there has been a sudden surge in cryptocurrency gambling? Particularly poker rooms like Americas Cardroom and BetOnline.

We have noticed that our articles and poker threads on Australian poker sites have been getting a lot of hits over the past 6 months so I think the Australian government are wasting their time trying to ban online poker.
