We are all well aware that major sportsbooks and poker rooms like Americas Cardroom, Bovada, 5Dimes and BetOnline now accept bitcoin in addition to conventional cashier options like bank transfer, cheque and debit/credit cards. What is not known is exactly how popular crypto-currency deposits and withdrawals are at these traditional gambling sites. In a recent tweet, popular bitcoin economist Tuur Demeester gave us a clue based on a conversation he overheard at a recent crypto currency conference. "Gambling site with +200 employees, started accepting BTC in '14, now sees +60% of its deposits made in Bitcoin."

If these figures are correct then bitcoin really is the future of offshore gambling.
  2. interesting. i wonder which site that is? most of the major bookies like 5dimes and betonline only started accepting bitcoin in 2016.

I can't think of any major traditional bookie that started accepting bitcoin in 2014 so this is rather strange. Must be a smaller operator. It's still massively bullish for bitcoin.

it's a pity that offshore companies like 5dimes and bovada are so secretive about their finances. i would love to know exactly how popular bitcoin deposits/withdrawals have become at their sportsbooks.

the price of bitcoin barely moved at the beginning of the nfl season so i doubt that this sportsbook is bovada or betonline. if 60% of their customers started buying bitcoin on the same week, it would probably have driven the price up by at least a thousand dollars.

I would expect withdrawals to be over 90% because it is tricky to cash out. Depositing is still possible with debit and credit cards so my guess would be 70% there.
