Roger Ver continues to be a controversial figure within the bitcoin community. He's the owner of the conspiracy filled subreddit r/btc and also the premium domain bitcoin.com. Ver recently added a high-stakes casino to his domain which has caused a lot of controversy because many feel that it should be used a resource for new users.

Jonas Schnelli, Core Dev, tweeted "So is the reason why Roger Ver likes big blocks and low fees, to play casino at casino.bitcoin.com ? Did Satoshi invent BTC for that?"

What do you guys think? Is Ver bitcoin Judas or Jesus?

I used to be a big fan of Roger Ver but he's making it hard to like him. All he seems to do these days is insult the core devs that made him millions of dollars.

personally i don't have a problem with this. most of the early adopters of bitcoin are using it for online gambling, buying drugs and pornography, just like in the early days of the internet. btc is an amazing tool for gamblers in the united states so i think we should be embracing the fact that bitcoin facilitates financial transactions in legal grey areas instead of pretending it's not happening.

It's only a problem if you see something fundamentally wrong with gambling. I see it as a legit use case for btc. People should be allowed to do whatever they like with their own money without the government interfering. And if gambling increases the interest in bitcoin and causes the price to increase then that can only be a good thing.

Personally I don't have an issue with porn but I wouldn't want to see the bitcoin.com site turned into a sex cam site either. Where exactly do you draw the line on what a premium domain like bitcoin.com should be used for.

Roger Ver claims that his casino is provably fair. Is there any evidence to back that up?

  7. Roger Ver is saying some really retarded things lately. The guy has made hundreds of millions of dollars off the hard work of the core team yet all he does is bitch and moan about them. I was hoping he'd get fed up and leave the space but that doesn't look likely if he's launched a casino.

His casino doesn't accept players from the USA, which is by far the largest market, so I don't really see the point. Bitcoin should serve the underserved. The underserved of gambling are United States citizens who are prevented from gambling by a tyrannical government.

Because of Roger's outspoken anti-government libertarian view points, I'm sure there are plenty of people in the USA who would love to throw him in jail for running an online casino that services U.S. players. For his own safety and liberty it's probably better that he refrains from facilitating online gambling in the U.S.

AFAIK he's not a U.S. citizen anymore so I don't think there is much the U.S. can do. I think he's based out of Saint Kitts and Nevis now which is a big off-shore gambling mecca.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ver does a full Mike Hearn rage quit one of these.

It's good to see that Ver has patched up his differences with Samson Mow (for now).

Roger Ver is increasingly talking through his ass these days. In a recent interview with Coin Telegraphy he said that "two bitcoin are better than one". This is dangerous talk as two separate bitcoin currencies would be catastrophic for the bitcoin price and confuse users who are just getting accustomed to using crypto. We need to avoid at all cost what happened with the Ethereum ETC and ETC split.

at this point i wish he'd just move over to ethereum. he means well but he's not a software engineer and i think he has an over simplified idea of how the protocol works.

When isn't Roger Ver causing controversy. If he blocks Segwit and the Lightening Network I was NEVER play at his crappy casino.

My guess is that Ver will back down once Segwit gets close to it's 95% activation point but he will hold out till then to try to blackmail the community into big blocks. If he doesn't backdown he's going to be ostracized by the community and then what's he going to do.

I wish the old Roger Ver would come back. This guy just lies and thinks everyone is an idiot. SegWit would already be activated and bitcoin would be at $2,000 if he kept out of technical arguments.

Yes, I wish he would stop being a politician and start being positive about BTC again.
