Online gambling with bitcoin is growing in popularity in the United States. Sports bettors and poker players are saving 5% to 7% every time they use bitcoin to make a deposit at 5Dimes, Americas Cardroom, Bovada, BetOnline and more. This is a major headache for many US based web wallets because U.S. regulations do not permit financial transactions to off-shore gambling sites. As a result, they are actively shutting down accounts of anyone who sends or receives payments from accounts that are linked to online gambling. As a result we are going to put together a guide to the best gambling friendly BTC wallets.

    GAMBLING RESTRICTED
    Coinbase (accounts being closed)
    Xapo
    Cash App (accounts being closed)

    GAMBLING FRIENDLY
Blockstream Green - https://blockstream.com/green/ (TOP RECOMMENDATION)
    BRD - https://brd.com/
Hodl Wallet (New basic wallet https://hodlwallet.co)
    Blockchain.info (IMPORTANT: AVOID THIS WALLET)
    Mycelium
Edge (used to be called) Airbitz

the best bitcoin wallet for gambling or anything else is a wallet where you control the private keys. anyone that trusts a bitcoin exchange or online wallet to hold their coins is crazy.

I wouldn't use the blockchain.info wallet other than for very small amounts. They had a lot of coins stolen last year and only got them back because it was a white hat hacker. They seem rather incompetent so it's best to use something like Mycelium, Electrum or Bread Wallet.

I general I think most of these wallets should be used for small amounts or just for intermediate wallets to facilitate transfers between gambling operators and bitcoin exchanges.

If you have a large amount of bitcoin then we would recommend you use a hardware wallet.

  5. Bovada lists Kraken as their wallet of choice. Does this mean that Kraken wallets are gambling friendly?

I wouldn't recommend using a desktop wallet unless it is on a machine that you only use for bitcoin. If you browse the internet, download torrents or install any type of dodgy software then there is a possibility that your private keys will be stole. It's always safer to use either a hardware wallet or a smartphone wallet.

Because Xapo is based in Switzerland there was a bit of debate about whether they allowed permitted gambling transactions. To get clarification we sent their support an email and they have now confirmed to us that Xapo DOES NOT allow their wallet to be used for gambling purposes.

Peter Todd recently tweeted that "If authorities asked http://blockchain.info to seize funds, they easily could (as happened w/ a similar wallet)"

Personally I like the Airbitz wallet. The U.I. is really easy to use and it allows you to buy and sell coins from inside the wallet if you live in Canada or the United States. Airbitz do have hold any information on your funds or on your transactions, which makes it perfect for funding bitcoin casinos and bookmakers.

I downloaded the GreenAddress iOS wallet today called Greenbits. I never took it too seriously before but now that it has been bought by Blockstream I trust it a lot more.

iPhone and iPad users should aware that there are currently fake iOS bitcoin wallets in the Apple App Store. If you want to avoid having your bitcoin stolen you should avoid these apps.

The new Ledger Nano S is so small that it fits on my key-ring so I've started to use it more and more as my hot wallet.

Circle.com are the first bitcoin wallet to be integrated with iMessage in iOS 10. This means that you can now send bitcoin from iPhone to iPhone the same way that you send text messages.

I recently bought one of the new Ledger Nano S hardware wallets. It's small enough to fit on my keyring so I tend to use that as my main wallet now. Ultra secure, portable and decentralised. Highly recommended!

i agree that it's a great wallet but don't you have to carry around the USB cable also?

The sooner hardware wallets integrate bluetooth the better.

Circle recently shutdown my account because I used it fund an online bookmaker. I didn't use a middleman account so schoolboy error. It was my own fault.
