I've read that the big advantage of using btc casinos is that they are provably fair. Thanks to cryptography you can independently verify that you have not been cheated. That sounds great in theory but how do I go about putting a bitcoin casino to the test? Is this something only Peter Todd and Gregory Maxwell can do or is there a simple way that a non-techie person can check if the casino games they're playing are provably fair?

Are all bitcoin casino provably fair or just some?

There are dozens of provably fair sites where you can play dice but if you want to play a wide range of provably fair casino games then Bitcoin Penguin is your best bet. Here's a quick summary....

    BITCOIN PENGUIN - BITCOINPENGUIN.COM
    • All casino games are Provably Fair and you can verify the fairness of each game yourself.
    • Play provably fair slots keno, bingo, live roulette, live sicbo, Caribbean poker, live blackjack, live baccarat, dragon tiger and more.
    • Texas hold'em cash games, freerolls and guaranteed tournaments.
    • iPhone and Android compatible casino games.
    • First deposit bonus up to 0.5 BTC and monthly deposit bonus up to 1 BTC.
    • Unique games you won't find at any other bitcoin casino.
    • Withdrawals happen instantly and all fees are paid by Bitcoin Penguin.
    • Fully licensed and regulated Costa Rica.

any casino or dice site that claims to be provably fair should also provide a verifier where you check for yourself.

I would how many people actually put provably fair casinos to the test? My guess is very few people actually use those verifier tools. They just assume that someone will do it.

Thanks to social media most established bitcoin casinos know that it will be all over Reddit within a few hours if they don't play by the rules. I doubt big name brands like Bitcoin Penguin and Fortune Jack would risk ruining their reputations over a few dice games. If you are playing at new or unknown bitcoin gambling websites then you should definitely verify for yourself that the games are fair.

We created this thread on How to know when a bitcoin casino is a scam, which might help.

Is there any website that independently verifies these "provably fair" claims?

But who is going to verify the website that verifies the casino?

Good point. I think it is up to each individual who uses "provably fair" bitcoin casinos to test those claims themselves. The whole point of bitcoin is to no rely on central authorities so bitcoin casinos should be no different. If you want to test a provably fair casino use a trusted third party hash calculator. Don't rely on the one they provide because it might be fake.

It should also be pointed out that some bitcoin casinos undergo and independent audits and are awarded certificates of fairness if they pass. Once such casino is Mbit who were tested by a group called RNG and award a certificate of fairness. Read more about it here http://www.bitcoingambling.io/mbit-casino.html

just because a bitcoin casino is provably fair today, it doesn't mean it will be provably fair tomorrow. i don't want to have to keep checking so i generally just gamble at sites that are licensed and regulated. let the regulators worry about checking the games for fairness.

Yes, that's a good point. It's important to be vigilant and continually check. For anyone confused about what we're talking about, here's an explanation on Provably Fair.

I've seen a lot of ICO's being launched that claim to be provably fair and run on the Ethereum blockchain. Whey would I want to stop using sites like mBit or FortuneJack to run a casino on the Ethereum blockchain? As long as I can deposit and withdrawl easily then who cares if the casino is being run from a server or a blockchain?
