Will Peter Thiel's influence in Trump government help protect bitcoin?

Despite months of campaigning, Donald Trump is still a relatively unknown entity. Over the past twenty years he has been a member of both the Democratic and Republican parties and has been known to change his position on topics with worrying regularity. As a result, no one is entirely sure what a Donald Trump government will mean for bitcoin and crypto-currencies. It's entirely possible that privacy enhancing technologies like Tor, bitcoin and encryption could come under attack during a Trump presidency.

What is clear is that the advisors he surrounds himself with will have a huge bearing on his policies, since he doesn't appear to have strong convictions of his own. During the presidential election PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel raised many eyebrows when he broke ranks with other Silicon Valley big shots by endorsing Donald Trump. As a reward for this loyalty, Tiel is now part of the Trump transition team and is sure to be a key advisor when it comes to the new governments policies regarding technology.

Many bitcoin gambling operators and punters are understandably nervous about what a Trump presidency will mean for crytpo-currencies. Here's why we think Peter Thiel could play a positive role in both protecting and promoting BTC over the next 4 years.
    • Trump respects other successful businessmen and there are few as successful as Peter Thiel, who has a net worth estimated at close to $3 billion dollars.
    • Thiel controversially endorsed Trump at the republican National Convention and donated over $1 million to the Trump campaign so Trump owes him big time.
    • Thiel is a bitcoin enthusiast who has invested in major bitcoin companies like Coinbase and BitPay.
    • Thiel is a libertarian who would advise against governments restricting citizens access to encryption and crypocurrencies

It's great that we have Peter Thiel within the inner sanctum to be a positive influence when it comes to bitcoin but I think there will be louder voices in the room. It wouldn't come as surprise to me if Trump and Thiel were no longer on speaking terms by this time next year. I doubt Trump will run for reelection so he won't need Thiel's endorsement in 4 years.

i think thiel will have influence until something bad happens like a terrorist attack on the united states. if there is any indication, even a false story, that a terrorist cell was even part funded using bitcoin then all hell will break loose on btc as trump tries to show his strength. in this scenario, which will hopefully never happen, thiel will be ineffectual as more hawkish members of a trump government take control.

to be fair hillary clinton would have been just as bad in this type of situation and maybe even worse, due to the associate with big wall street banks.

Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump and will betray Thiel in the end. Thiel is also big supporter of ethereum also so I'm not sure how much I trust the guys judgement.

Really? I follow Thiel a bit and I don't think I've ever heard him mention ETH or ETC before.

Thiel was an early investor and bought a huge amount of ETH in the early auction.
  8. After all the hype about Peter Thiel joining the Trump administration, I have not heard one positive story emerge about technology or crypto-currency. Is he even still part of the Trump team?

If he is part of the team, he's keeping very quiet. I suspect the might have already resigned like Elon Musk. As a gay man, Thiel should be appalled by Trumps recent tweets about transgenders in the military.

I don't think Peter Thiel is heavily involved with the Trump government but he is still bullish on bitcoin....
